Southpace was proud to host the Retail Brokers Network Retreat in Birmingham last week. More than 40 brokers from across the country joined us for three days exploring Birmingham’s retail market, local restaurants, and entertainment scene.

We kicked off the week in Atlanta for ICSC, then toured Birmingham by bus, highlighting key retail corridors and developments across the metro area. The group also visited Sloss Furnaces, Barber Motorsports Park, and The Summit, and wrapped up the weekend with trips to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama game and Talladega.

A special thank you to our guest speakers, Jonathan Kahalley with Shannon Waltchack, Dan Lovell with Graham & Company, and David Silverstein, Jr. with FiveStone Group for taking the time to come speak to us.

It was a great week showcasing everything Birmingham has to offer and connecting with RBN members from across the country.

August Highlights and Openings!

Bryan Holt, Sam Centeno and Bradley Keller represented Valvoline in securing two new sites that opened this month. Valvoline opened its first location in Prattville, Alabama with Ford Fitts of ACRE as the developer and another location in Madison, Alabama developed by David Rodgers and Les Lewis of Trident.

Two new Taco Bell locations opened in Huntsville and Jasper, represented by Blake Thomas. In the Huntsville transaction, Sandra Vann with Legend Realty represented the seller.

Garrett Laurie represented the landlord at Leeds Station, leasing the last available space to Total Wireless and bringing the property to 100% occupancy.

July Openings!

Taco Bell and 7 Brew opened earlier this month in Chelsea, taking over the former Marathon Gas Station site along Highway 280. Blake Thomas represented both tenants in securing these new locations. 7 Brew celebrated their grand opening with a $1,000 donation to Children’s of Alabama during the ribbon cutting.

First Watch opened its newest location in Prattville in early July. Bryan Holt, Sam Centeno, and Bradley Keller represented them in securing the former O’Charley’s site.

Meet Frances! Frances recently joined Southpace as our Retail Coordinator after graduating from Auburn University with a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing with a minor in Sales.

During college, she interned with the City of Opelika’s Economic Development team, gaining hands-on experience with industry recruitment and workforce initiatives. That sparked her interest in how business decisions shape local economies and deepened her understanding of market dynamics. She’s excited to bring her curiosity and energy to the team and continue growing in the world of commercial real estate.
